It seems hope is not lost for a face-off between Shaq and Big Show to be one of the WrestleMania 33 matches. Shaquille O’Neal recently revealed he is back negotiating with the higher ups of WWE for the match to happen.
The potential match between Shaq and Big Show–real name Paul Wight–has long been rumored. However, both parties seemed to hint recently that the match may no longer be on.
According to CBS Sports, Big Show accused his potential opponent of being too scared to show up. He further threw shade at Shaq by saying he was getting fatter every week. Big Show’s comments made during an interview with ESPN says:
“He has to figure things out in his own camp. Maybe he is just too scared to show up because he’s too busy riding around singing karaoke with John Cena and going to Krispy Kreme and getting fatter every week.”
For his part, Shaq clarified that the uncertainty of the match rests with his negotiations with WWE. He even emphasized that the match being in jeopardy is not his fault.
However, that seemed to change recently. In another one of his podcasts, Shaq revealed he is back in talks to make the match happen. Uproxx quoted him as saying:
“I’ve talked to somebody high up in the organization, and they – we’re back talking again. I just want the people to know it had nothing to do with me, despite what you hear.”
With this, it seems WrestleMania 33 matches still has a chance to include Big Show vs Shaq. The outcome of negotiations will determine the match’s potential.
Other WrestleMania 33 Matches
Meanwhile, the recently concluded Fastlane seems to be a major factor in determining other WrestleMania 33 matches. Bleacher Report gave a rundown of potential matches given the outcome of Fastlane.
One of the pairings the source included in its list pointed to a match between Roman Reigns and Undertaker. Bleacher Report cites Reigns’ victory over Braun Strowman in Fastlane as an indication that the two’s rivalry is over. Consequently, Undertaker remains without an opponent.
Hence, the source suggests a face off between Reigns and Undertaker is inevitable. Their staredown at the Royal Rumble also seems a sign pointing to their future encounter in Orlando.
Another potential match that Bleacher Report considers is one between AJ Styles and Shane McMahon. The source explains:
“WWE has heavily foreshadowed a showdown between Styles and SmackDown commissioner Shane McMahon. The Phenomenal One berated Shane O’Mac during his No. 1 Contender’s match against Luke Harper on Feb. 28.”
What do you think of these potential WrestleMania 33 matches? WrestleMania 33 happens on April 2 in Orlando, Florida.
