The Salvatore brothers have spent most of the first part of the season apart. But, they are now back together, collecting evil souls for Cade and playing pranks along the way. However, as Stefan begins to turn more violent, the fun fades away.

Somerhalder notes that Stefan is getting into the part that is typical of Damon.

“Stefan is taking the role that you would’ve typically seen Damon in,” Somerhalder told Entertainment Weekly. “Damon is finding his compassion, and he’s trying hard to battle the darkness inside of him.”

Although his character does not enjoy what is happening around him, Somerhalder certainly loved the episode for its focus on relationships. He added that episode 8 is not only about the Salvatore brothers but also about Matt and his father.

“It was about relationships and the complexity and simplicity of literally people and just a camera,” He said.

The actor also noted that the relationship between Matt and his father is particularly powerful and it has a great on-screen appeal. He added that the dynamic between them is also intense.

Episode 8 to Feature Michael Malarkey’s Song

International Business Times reported that episode 8 will feature Scars, a song written by Michael Malarkey. According to Somerhalder, the song will fit the episode perfectly.

The song will be used at the end of the episode for a montage. The actor even composed an extended version of the song just for The Vampire Diaries

Somerhalder said that Scars basically reflects on what happens in the episode and tallies with the final five minutes of it. He added, that it was a great experience working with Malarkey behind the camera.

The Vampire Diaries Season 8 episode 8 will air on Friday at 8 p.m. in The CW.
