The Heck family is coming back for The Middle season 9. ABC has renewed the comedy show for another season.
The Middle is one of the top-rated shows from the network. It maintained its position as ABC’s most-watched comedy in the Tuesday time period in five years.
“The Middle has been one of the network’s most consistent performers and helped us to launch a whole new night of comedy when it moved to Tuesdays this season. The Indiana Hecks have found America’s sweet spot with their authentic, acerbic and always loving take on parenting, work, kids, marriage and life,” ABC Entertainment president Channing Dungey said in a statement.
What To Expect in The Middle Season 9
ONE. The current cast members of season 8 will come back for the ninth installment of ABC’s second longest-running sitcom, Deadline reported. Two-time Emmy-winner Patricia Heaton will reprise her role as Frankie Heck. Neil Flynn will keep playing the role of Frankie’s husband, Mike.
As for the kids, Charlie McDermott will stay portray the Hecks’ eldest son Axl. Eden Sher reprises her role as the only daughter Sue and Atticus Shaffer returns as the youngest–Brick.
TWO. Time slot-wise, the family comedy show is expected to cling on its Tuesday post next season. In this time slot, The Middle is averaging 6.4 million total viewers and a 1.6 demo rating, TVLine noted.
THREE. No news yet on how many episodes the new season will run for. However, season 8 currently contains 23 episodes which could clue in that the upcoming season would also run with the same number of episodes.
Changes await the family in season 9
FOUR. Changes will definitely disturb the Heck family in The Middle season 9. Frankie may worry even more that their family “core group” will disintegrate further in the upcoming season.
FIVE. In the show’s current run, Axl is already in his senior year at the East Indiana State University. He will be out of college next season and probably have his first job too. He may also find a new girl, rekindle his romance with April, or start a new relationship with Lexie.
Sue, on the other hand, is now pursuing a degree in Hospitality and Hotel Management. She might still take a major in theater next season since this is her passion. Finally, Brick is already in his teen years and will deal with teenage problems.
