Tom Hardy is coming back on BBC One’s Taboo season 2. The actor has confirmed the second season of the periodic drama series. Taboo season 1 premiered earlier this year in BBC One in the UK and FX in the US.
Tom Hardy (James Delaney) has expressed his excitement to work once again with the British network and FX. He also revealed that the second season will revolve around Colonnade. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, the actor said:
“We’re onto the next stage. The key really is Colonnade. When he says, ‘We are Americans’, James is very ambiguous with how much information he’s going to give. In his mind, you will know when the time is right.”
Creator Steven Knight said Delaney will continue to explore many realities in the next season as he takes his band of misfits to a new world. In the season 1 finale, the series protagonist is leaving England after he killed several soldiers.
Meanwhile, executive producer Ridley Scott teased that fans should expect more adventures for Delaney in Taboo season 2. He said:
“We’re thrilled people want to know what happens next and that the BBC and FX are up for more adventures with the devil Delaney and the league of the damned.”
The new season of Taboo consists of eight hour-long episodes. Knight previously said that he has plans to run the show for three seasons.
Tom Hardy’s Taboo TV Series
Taboo is set in 1814 London. It follows the life of James Keziah Delaney (Hardy), an adventurer who was thought long dead but came back to London as a changed man. He returns home to inherit what is left of his father’s shipping empire. As he navigates increasingly dangerous territories to survive, a dark family mystery begins to unfold.
Season 1 centered on the conflict between Delaney and the East India Company in London. Sir Stuart Strange’s (Jonathan Pryce) multinational corporation plotted Delaney’s murder in order to take the land he inherited.
The series was created by Steven Knight, Hardy, and the actor’s father Chips Hardy. According to BBC, Taboo is one of the most successful dramas ever on iPlayer and has been popular with younger audiences.
The drama series cast members include Oona Chaplin, Jonathan Pryce, David Hayman, Mark Gatiss, Jessie Buckleym, and Jefferson Hall. BBC One has yet to release details whether there will be new cast members coming in the next season.
Taboo season 2 is expected to premiere in 2018. Meanwhile, the first installment of Taboo will remain on the BBC iPlayer until March 27, 2017.
