The Young and The Restless star Eric Braeden speaks up about the controversy he faces outside of the daytime TV soap.
The Young and The Restless actor came forward through his publicist with an official statement. Perhaps, Eric Braeden is hopeful it would put an end to the recent meme controversy he finds himself in.
“My twitter account was hacked and I deleted the tweet once I saw it,” Deadline reported Braeden’s statement following their request for a comment.
The Young and The Restless Victor Newman Blames Hackers
Surprisingly, the alleged tweet from Braeden’s account came after the actor retweeted a post opposing racism. Hence, the appearance of the racial tweet two days later came as a surprise to his fans. Although it is long gone, the Toronto Sun noted it has done its part to damage the reputation of the 75-year old actor on social media. Indeed, many voiced their opinions and even shared Braeden’s post.
However, it would seem the views of fans are split as to whether he could be liable for it. @mbraif wrote it was not likely for the actor to do it even if just to get a laugh out of it.
“@EBraeden I don’t believe for a second you use racial epithets even for a laugh.”
Then again, others seemed to suggest the actor is similar to the onscreen character he plays. Thus, @scoma60 called for a reboot of the long running daytime drama series. However, it would mean The Young and The Restless cast would be less one character, namely Victor.
“I see Eric Braeden is just a vile offscreen as Victor is on.#YR needs a reboot w/o his character Enough!” Eric Braeden plays the role of Victor Newman, the self-made business mogul on CBS’ The Young and The Restless. The German-born actor has been with the long-running daytime soap for the past 37 years. Thus, would the show be the same without him?
