If there are two shows just ripe for a crossover, it is The Walking Dead and its spinoff, Fear the Walking Dead. Fans have long been waiting for these two worlds to collide. Despite the showrunners’ claims that a crossover is simply impossible, fans believe otherwise.
Rick Grimes and the rest of his family are currently being plagued by Negan and his Saviors in The Walking Dead Season 7. The Manawa and Clark families are also not doing so well at the end of Fear the Walking Dead Season 2. So how will these two disparate groups of characters meet?
Will the Whisperers Bring TWD and FTWD Together?
Wetpaint raised the possibility that the Whisperers’ story arc is the perfect vehicle for a crossover between the two shows. They even gave suggestions on how this could happen. In Robert Kirkman’s comic, the Whisperers are a group of survivors who cover themselves in walker skins. This allows them to move among the undead. FTWD‘s Nick has done something similar in the series, covering himself with walker blood and traveling among a herd of walkers.
There are also some eerie similarities between one of Fear’s protagonists, Madison, and Alpha, the Whisperer’s leader. Both are smart, calculating and fearless women who have forced themselves to become cold-hearted in order to survive. Both also have daughters.
Alpha is admittedly the crueler of the two as she allowed her daughter, Lydia, to be abused for the sake of peace within the group. She also banished Lydia for her alleged weakness, whereas Madison obviously cares for her daughter, Alicia. But post-apocalyptic circumstances might change her relationships with people, even her own family.
However, there are admittedly two major obstacles to this idea – the location and timeline. The Fear the Walking Dead group is in Mexico, while their counterparts are somewhere in Virginia. The spinoff also revolves around the first months after the fall of civilization, while it has already been years for the TWD crew.
Fear the Walking Dead aired Sundays at 9 p.m. ET on AMC, while its Season 3 has no confirmed date yet. On the other hand, The Walking Dead Season 7B airs Feb. 12, 2017 (US premiere), and Feb. 13, 2017 (international premiere), on the same network.
