The New Edition Story cast put up with rigorous training sessions for their respective roles in the upcoming music biopic from BET. Now, they share details on their preparation.

On January 24, BET premieres the musical biopic of the platinum-selling, Grammy Award winning R&B group New Edition. No doubt, fans are familiar with the quintet who shot to fame in the eighties.

The three-part series will feature the story of the musical act behind and in front of the cameras. Each original member took part in the production and spent time with The New Edition Story cast to create an authentic narrative.

The New Edition Story Cast Attend Bootcamp

Surely, it was important for The New Edition Story cast to get the sound and their moves right. After all it was one of the trademarks of the eighties boy band. Hence, their trainers for the roles were the members of New Edition themselves.

Incidentally, Bobby Brown, Ralph Tresvant, Ricky Bell, Michael Bivins, Ronnie DeVoe, and Johnny Gill are also producers of the music biopic. Thus, their desire for The New Edition Story cast to play them in the best light.

Yet their time in bootcamp did not just make them better performers. In fact, it also brought them together as friends.

Hence, they formed a bond similar to the lifelong friendship shared by the boy band. Indeed, the New Edition continue to perform together on occasion.

“It’s good to have a brotherhood like that,” Algee Smith who plays Ralph Tresvant told Billboard. “This is my first time I get to work with people I’ve looked up to; it was a great feeling for me,” Woody McClain who plays Bobby Brown McClain added.

Seventh Member of New Edition

Fans of New Edition will also get to know the seventh member of the band. Although he did not perform onstage with the boys, Brooke Payne was instrumental in putting them together. Moreover, he taught them to be professionals, executive producer Jesse Collins told Yahoo TV.

Brooke Payne was their manager and choreographer. Payne also played an active role in training the New Edition Story cast for their characters.
