Talulah Riley is coming back in Westworld season 2 but not in a recurring role anymore.
Riley has been promoted to series regular, which means more screen time when the HBO sci-fi drama returns in 2018. In season 1, the British actress portrayed Angela, the gorgeous host who welcomes newcomers to the park.
It can be recalled that Angela is also the one who welcome William (Jimmi Simpson) to the Wild West-themed amusement park in season 1 episode 2. She helped William pick out costumes and weapons for his vacation in the android-filled park. Angela then returned as a follower of cult leader Wyatt (Sorin Brouwers) near the end of the season.
Entertainment Weekly cited HBO teaser where it was stated that in the upcoming season Angela would be:
“A host whose beatific face welcomed guests to Westworld for decades … Angela will prove to be one of the last faces many guests will ever see.”
This could mean that some of the incoming guests bound for Westworld may not come back to the real world again. It can be recalled that in season 1 finale, the hosts are declaring war on the humans. Is Angela joining Maeve (Thandie Newton) in the rebellion? Or will she be on the side of Dolores (Evan Rachel Wood) when the series resume?
Riley previously starred in Pride & Prejudice, Inception, and Thor: The Dark World. She was married billionaire Elon Musk twice and got divorced twice too.
More Westworld Season 2 Update
The plot of season 2 remains under wrap. So far, showrunners Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy have revealed that Westworld season 2 will feature the hosts’ construction and power source. They also hinted that the hosts’ will also explore who they really are this season as they are actually closer to biological than being mechanical.
Meanwhile, it is still unclear whether Simpson will be coming back in season 2. His character’s older version, the Man in Black (Ed Harris) has been confirmed to return.
Simpsons, however, added he would not be surprised if his character would make an appearance in season 3. In an interview with GQ Style magazine, Simpson said:
“So far, my involvement in that is unclear. If they have more for William, I would assume it would be a whole new kind of story. Because I feel like this story, the love affair [with Evan Rachel Wood’s character, Dolores], we know everything, we know what happens, we don’t have to belabor that point … But I wouldn’t be surprised if William showed up season three or something.”
HBO renewed the series for a ten-episode season 2 in November. Westworld season 2 will premiere in 2018.
