The SWAT reboot is the latest show to join the revival trend on television. CBS placed a pilot order on the Shawn Ryan production.
The upcoming SWAT reboot is likely CBS’ response to the television action genre. Recent reports revealed Fox gave the green light to the Behind Enemy Lines reboot.
This time around, CBS takes the action to Los Angeles as it follows the struggles of a SWAT lieutenant as he carries on his duty. Nonetheless, audiences can look forward to the action of the elite unit as the “last stop for solving crimes,” The Hollywood Reporter wrote.
Details on the SWAT Reboot
The CBS SWAT reboot is based on the 2003 film of the same name. It starred Samuel L. Jackson, Colin Farrell, Michelle Rodriguez, and LL Cool J. The movie grossed over two hundred million dollars worldwide.
Incidentally, the movie was itself based on the 1975 TV series of the same title. The producers behind the seventies show were Aaron Spelling and Leonard Goldberg.
This time around, Aaron Thomas will write and produce the SWAT reboot. Joining him in this endeavor are Shawn Ryan and Neal Moritz along with Marney Hochman, Pavun Shetty, Danielle Woodrow and Justin Lin.
By the way, Moritz directed the 2003 film. This time around, directorial duties for the SWAT reboot pilot go to Justin Lin. Lin’s credentials include work with the Fast & Furious franchise, Star Trek Beyond, and the Scorpion TV series.
How Would the SWAT Reboot Fare in the Revival Trend?
The current revival trend sweeping television could simply be a way for networks to make the most of their intellectual property. Hopefully, it would not mean a repeat of what has previously been done.
In the case of the SWAT reboot, it could have an ace in its corner considering the involvement of original producers in the project. Moreover, Screen Rant seems optimistic at its chances among similar shows in its genre even if it comes across as a reboot of a reboot.
On its own, the brand name would have a wealth of material to cash in on. However, Justin Lin’s inclusion does bode well for its future. So, chances are fans might see amazing, theatrical action sequences on the SWAT reboot. Hence, it would set it apart from the rest. Moreover, it is something viewers will want to watch out for weekly.
