Fans could see Stranger Things star David Harbour again in the big screen. Particularly, as a mutant in the X-Men franchise.

Harbour is reportedly the frontrunner to play the character, Cable, in the forthcoming Deadpool 2 movie. According to The Wrap, the actor has been screen-tested by Fox for the role of Nathan Summers, a.k.a. Cable.

Harbour has been known for playing Chief Jim Hopper on the Netflix hit series Stranger ThingsHe had been confirmed to return in season 2.

The Stranger Things star appeared in several TV shows including Law and Order and The Newsroom. Harbour also starred in Brokeback Mountain, Quantum of Solace, State of Play, and Suicide Squad.

Deadpool 2 writers Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese previously talked about how they would introduce Cable in the sequel. The writers told Collider earlier this year that they will stay true to the character like he is in the comics.

Reese and Wernick explained they might leave out some of the details about Cable’s origin and will instead focus on what makes the character interesting. They said:

“I think we’re going to distill him down to his essence. It will be authentic and faithful, but it’s not going to include the 18,000 details.”

Several actors have been teased to play the role. Former Deadpool 2 director Tim Miller reportedly wanted to cast Bloodline star Kyle Chandler as Cable.

Lead star and producer Ryan Reynolds (Deadpool), however, disagreed with Miller’s casting choice. This reportedly force the director to leave the sequel. Most recently, Deadpool creator Rob Liefeld wrote on Twitter that he wants Russell Crowe to play Cable on Deadpool 2.

Who is Cable?

Cable is the alter ego of Nathan Summers, the son of Scott Summers, a.k.a. Cyclops and Madelyne Pryor (Jean Grey’s clone).

The character first appeared as a newborn in Uncanny X-Men #201 in January 1986. Writer Chris Claremont created the young Cable. Rob Liefeld and Louise Simonson, on the other hand, created the adult version. He first appeared in The New Mutants #87 in March 1990.

Cable was born with telepathic and telekinetic abilities. His powers faded later on. In Avengers: X-Sanction, Cable emerged fully cured of the techno-organic virus and regained his telepathic power.

However, Cable had once again temporarily lost his ability in a Deadpool & Cable: Split comic issue. He got back his powers along with his cybernetics after Deadpool repaired his personal timeline. Cable has a cybernetic eye, a bionic left arm, and is embedded with a technology that allows him to breach computer systems.

Deadpool 2 has no release date as of the moment. John Wick director David Leitch is set to helm the project. Meanwhile, catch Stranger Things star Harbour and the rest of the cast in season 2 which is scheduled to debut on October 31, 2017.
