The latest news about Star Trek Discovery could raise alarm among fans eager for its premiere. Yet the more troubling fact might be its unknown air date.
The recent update about the Star Trek series is saddening, to say the least. Moreover, it could bring down the earlier euphoria fans felt when the schedule of production leaked.
At present, the Star Trek Discovery release date is in limbo. Apparently, this new development has something to do with the lead star’s involvement with another TV series.
Reason behind Delay of Star Trek Discovery Premiere
The exit of series creator Bryan Fuller led to the initial delay of the TV series’ premiere. Originally, February was the target month for Star Trek Discovery. Then it moved to May, which is a ratings’ surge month. Hence, it would have been opportune for the show to premiere.
However, according to Entertainment Weekly, the latest shift in its premiere date has to do with The Walking Dead. This is in relation to the show’s lead star Sonequa Martin-Green, who happens to be part of the zombie mega-hit series on AMC.
Apparently, CBS has concerns about its promotions which would likely feature Martin-Green. The network worries how audiences would react to see her in a Star Trek Discovery promo while she is still with TWD. The current season of the zombie series airs until April.
CBS Television Studios offered an explanation regarding the delay through an official statement. “Production on Star Trek: Discovery begins next week. We love the cast, the scripts and are excited about the world the producers have created. This is an ambitious project; we will be flexible on a launch date if it’s best for the show,” CBS Television Studios stated.
“We’ve said from the beginning it’s more important to do this right than to do it fast. There is also added flexibility presenting on CBS All Access, which isn’t beholden to seasonal premieres or launch windows,” the network added.
Star Trek Discovery Cast Addition
Meanwhile, fans might welcome the addition of another member to the TV series cast. The Hollywood Reporter reveals the entry of James Frain. The actor will play the role of Spock’s father Sarek in Star Trek Discovery.
