South Park Season 20 Creators Concede
The victory of Donald Trump as the president of the United States came as a major game changer. Indeed, many sectors felt its impact. As it turns out, the South Park season 20 creators also felt it. Hence, their decision to take a step back on poking fun at the government.
Fans will recall many South Park season 20 funny moments involving a character who was obviously inspired by the current US president. However, Trey Parker and Matt Stone reveal season 21 might be different. Despite the wealth of material presented by the ongoing political situation in the country, they admit they cannot come up with anything funnier to top it.
“It’s tricky and it’s really tricky now as satire has become reality. We were really trying to make fun of what was going on [last season] but we couldn’t keep up. What was actually happening was way funnier than anything we could come up with. So we decided to just back off and let [politicians] do their comedy and we’ll do ours,” Parker said in an interview together with Stone on ABC News.
Beyond South Park Season 20
South Park is expected to come back later this year for its 21st season. So, the creators have eight months to think about what is next for the animated series. However, given their current frame of mind, it is likely the forthcoming episodes might tackle simpler story lines, Screen Crush speculated. Would fans be receptive to the change?
South Park featured the character of Donald Trump early on in season 5 in the episode The Entity. His next appearance was on Where My Country Gone, the second episode of season 19, according to South Park Wikia.
This time around, Trump appears as the President of Canada. However, he dies at the hands of Mr. Garrison. Consequently, Mr. Garrison decides to run for president of the United States alongside his running mate Caitlyn Jenner.
