Scream Queens season 3 is “still in consideration” as of the moment, as cleared by Fox CEO Gary Newman. The Fox boss shed light about the possibility of another season at the recent winter press tour of the Television Critics Association.
Noting that Scream Queens ended on a negative note after having the lowest ratings on the Big 4, Newman said that they “would have loved to have seen bigger numbers.” He also noted that there was a delayed viewing and that the show “reaches a hard-to-reach younger audience” which they liked, a report from TV Line said.
Scream Queens Season 3 May Push Through
Despite not confirming if the horror-comedy anthology series will be cancelled or it will push for season 3, the Fox execs admitted that it is still being considered. Entertainment boss David Madden said that it may be renewed. “It’s very much still in consideration for a renewal,” he said. “The ratings don’t tell the whole story; because it’s such a young audience, you can’t really even see the full picture even in L+3.”
Scream Queens Ratings Dropped
Scream Queens season 1 followed the characters of lead stars Jamie Lee Curtis, Emma Roberts, and Lea Michele. The story was set in the college Greek system and that cast members play as sorority girls. Meanwhile, the second season of Scream Queens, which ended last month, focused on the girls being in a hospital.
A Variety report said that the hospital setting was an action to expand the show’s target audience to male and female. The series’ reinvention in their sophomore year was also adapted from co-creator Ryan Murphy’s style in his American Horror Story. However, the series ended with low rating with only 1.38 million viewers overnight. It has a 0.5 rating in the 18-49 demographic, which led them to their sophomore slump.
Scream Queens also star Abigail Breslin, Keke Palmer, Billie Lourd, Glen Powell and Niecy Nash. Additional cast members in season 2 were John Stamos, Taylor Lautner, James Earl and Kirstie Alley.
Newman added that they will come up with the decision of renewing Scream Queens season 3 in the month of May.
