Scandal season 6 spoilers point to Olivia Pope in a race to find evidence that will take down Cyrus Beene for the death of Governor Francisco Vargas. Will she find it in time before Cyrus takes oath as the new president?
In the season 6 premiere, Mellie Grant (Bellamy Young) lost the election to Vargas (Danny Pino). However, before he was sworn in, Vargas was assassinated. In the upcoming episode titled Hardball, outgoing president Fitzgerald Grant (Tony Goldwyn) will face an unprecedented national crisis.
Since Vargas and Cyrus Beene haven’t been officially elected by the electoral college, it will all come down to Fitz. “The next president is who you say it is,” Attorney General David Rosen (Joshua Malina) tells the president. Who will he choose?
Meanwhile, Olivia’s (Kerry Washington) gut tells her that Cyrus ordered the hit on Vargas. She is willing to prove it before Fitz announces the successor to the Oval Office.
She might find an ally in Mellie, who is dedicated to follow her husband’s footsteps. Can Mellie snatch the seat from Cyrus now that Fitz is ready to name him as the new president?
Who Killed Vargas?
Scandal season 6 spoilers imply that Cyrus is the mastermind behind the assassination of Vargas. Olivia’s father, Eli Pope (Joe Morton) also hints that the White House chief of staff did it.
However, when Olivia rushed to the hospital to confront Cyrus, she saw a devastated man and Vargas’ blood still all over him. His reaction made Olivia change her mind, Hollywood Life wrote.
Later on, however, Olivia’s gladiators recover a voicemail left by Jennifer Fields, a volunteer on Vargas’ campaign. In the voicemail, Jennifer reveals that Cyrus ordered the hit.
Did Cyrus really murder Vargas? Viewers will have to watch more episodes since the killer’s identity will not be named until episode 5 or 6.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, executive producer Shonda Rhimes teased that more twists are coming up this season. “That becomes clear. But as usual for Scandal, the thing you think is the story is not really the story. You think you are going to be watching a story about who is president. Yes, that is interesting, but it doesn’t really have much to do with where we are going,” she said.
Scandal season 6 episode 2 will air on February 2 at 9 p.m. on ABC. Share your theories on who you think killed Vargas in the comments below.
