Creator Ray Mckinnon shared his thoughts about how he decided to bring Rectify Season 4 on its final point. The story focuses on a man named Daniel Holden, who was imprisoned for 19 years. He was accused of murder and raping his girlfriend.
Rectify Season 4 was starred by Aden Young (as Daniel Holden), Adelaide Clemens, Abigail Spencer and J. Smith-Cameron. Joining them are Johnny Ray Gill, Luke Kirby, Sean Bridge and Clayne Crawford.
Ray Mckinnon Reveals His Ideas for Rectify
Ray Mckinnon spoke with The Hollywood Reporter about the reasons why he was drawn to Rectify. He stated that part of the reason why he has been interested about the story is because the series was telling the audience how in real life people do not always get the answers. But in a story, there is a higher chance that one can.
“Part of the reason I was drawn to this story, part of the reason I have been drawn to telling this story, is that in life we don’t always get the answers. I think in story, a lot of time we do,” Mckinnon explained. Aside from this, Mckinnon also thinks that the reason why the idea of a “story” came up is because the viewers want to receive comfort and closure.
In addition, some of them also look for a deeper understanding. But still he believes there is always a part of a story that will remain a mystery and will never be completely solved.
One more thing that has been explained is the reason why he did not unveil the complete truth about the murder. This happened during the final episode of Rectify Season 4. It is because they do not want to frustrate the audience and there are things that he did not want to explain.
Aside from being the creator, Ray Mckinnon is also one of the show’s executive producers. Rectify Season 4 was also announced to be the last installment of the series. Season 4’s final episode was aired last December 14, Saturday, on SundanceTV.
