Early predictions for the WWE Royal Rumble 2017 missed out Randy Orton’s name. So, how could his surprise win affect Wrestlemania 33?
Betting odds pointed to Braun Strowman as this year’s likely winner of the Royal Rumble. Moreover, many considered him as their top choice for Wrestlemania as well.
Interestingly, Randy Orton was not even on the top 5 contenders’ list to win. Thus, what could his victory mean for the upcoming main event on April 2?
How Orton’s Win Affects Wrestlemania 33 Matches
Luis Paez-Pumar of Rolling Stone described the recently concluded Royal Rumble 2017 as utilitarian. Thus, it served its purpose to strengthen characters and develop plot lines furthermore.
To some extent, Orton’s surprising win seemed like a letdown due to the lack of drama. Nonetheless, Paez-Pumar foresees a world of possibilities opening up for the Wrestlemania 33 matches because of it.
For starters, Wrestlemania 33 could see him and John Cena face off once again. Indeed, Cena’s performance to date has been one of the highlights for the WWE.
However, chances are he might end up losing in the Elimination Chamber. This is a likely scenario, should Samoa Joe get involved. Apparently, rumors of a match up between him and John Cena are rife.
Yet a better match to bet on at the Wrestlemania 33 arena is between Randy Orton and Brad Wyatt. Indeed, the event could be the suitable venue to settle their feud. However, Paez-Pumar does not count this as the main event to watch out for.
What to Expect at Wrestlemania 33
Wrestlemania 33 takes place on April 2. Yet the recent conclusion of the Royal Rumble 2017 seems to bring it closer than ever as the excitement builds up. Moreover, it is likely that WWE does not want a repeat of last year’s highly criticized event.
To date, four names echo as the likely contenders for the final slot at Wrestlemania 33. Therefore, it could either be a match between the Undertaker versus Roman Reigns or a fight between Brock Lesnar and Goldberg.
Roman stands out as the best among the four wrestlers, although he also holds the distinction of being the most hated by fans. Earlier rumors about Wrestlemania 33 matches teased his likely face off with Braun Strowman. On the other hand, John Cena was earlier touted as the Undertaker’s competition at Wrestlemania this year.
