The Liars will soon say goodbye to a massive global audience when Pretty Little Liars season 7B airs its final 10 episodes. However, is it truly the end for these characters? Recent reports seem to suggest otherwise as a potential Pretty Little Liars spinoff could be in the works.
According to Refinery29, I. Marlene King’s new project The Perfectionists could somehow be a low-key PLL spinoff. Although this is just speculation at this point, the source details that evidence exist to prove such possibility.
One evidence is the appearance of two characters in the PLL finale. The source relays Reddit user tiagob94’s observation about two character names appearing in the series’ final episode titled ‘Til DeAth Do as Part.
The Redditor points out that in the IMDb page for the PLL finale, the characters Ava (Ana Markova) and Claire (Raquel McPeek Rodriguez) appear. Consequently, two characters from The Perfectionists also go by the names of Ava and Claire.
Refinery29 further reports that this connection is not the only evidence. The source cites a tweet from King about the upcoming project which reveals that they will add “a twist on a twist” for the new series.
King did not drop any more clues after that. However, fans were quick to speculate on what that twist could be. The most prominent theory suggests that Emily Fields (Shay Mitchell) and Alison DiLaurentis (Sasha Pieterse) could move out of Rosewood to the new place where The Perfectionists is set in.
Fans would certainly love the idea. Nevertheless, Refinery29 clarify that there is no concrete proof to back the Emison theory.
Source Material for the Potential Pretty Little Liars Spinoff
The Pretty Little Liars series takes inspiration from Sara Shepard’s book of the same name. Interestingly, the author also wrote The Perfectionists.
The book also have five teenage girls as its protagonists. Shepard’s official website gives the following synopsis for the book:
“In Beacon Heights, Washington, five girls—Ava, Caitlin, Mackenzie, Julie, and Parker—know that you don’t have to be good to be perfect. At first the girls think they have nothing in common, until they realize that they all hate Nolan Hotchkiss, who’s done terrible things to each of them. They come up with the perfect way to kill him—a hypothetical murder, of course. It’s just a joke…until Nolan turns up dead, in exactly the way they planned. Only, they didn’t do it. And unless they find the real killer, their perfect lives will come crashing down around them.”
Whether The Perfectionists is a Pretty Little Liars spinoff or not, long-time fans of PLL will still like the premise of I. Marlene King’s new project. The last 10 episodes of PLL will start airing in April.
