The latest The Originals season 4 news details that Rebekah will have more appearances when the show returns this March. Ever since Claire Holt shifted to recurring status from series regular back in season 1, the star had rare participation each season.

From TV Line‘s winter TV preview slideshow, series executive producer Michael Narducci shared there’s more for Holt. The source quotes him as saying that Rebekah’s appearance will make up “about half the season”. He further teased that “Rebekah has an incredible journey to go on”.

For the unfamiliar, the actress had to leave The CW show for personal reasons. Holt wanted to spend more time with her family, who are based in Los Angeles. However, shooting for The Vampire Diaries spin-off takes place in Atlanta, Georgia.

Nevertheless, after her transition from series regular to special guest star, Holt appeared in a number of episodes. People behind The Originals tried to seamlessly explain why Rebekah is out of sight.

At one point, Rebekah went on a journey away from New Orleans to find a spell that could bring Kol back to life. On another instance, Aurora hid her daggered body to serve as leverage against Klaus.

Finally, in The Originals season 3 finale, Hayley woke Rebekah up to help reason with Marcel. Though that didn’t do much in terms of what happened to Klaus at the end of the episode, it appears a greater story arc awaits her in season 4.

The future of The Originals season 4

With its parent show on its final season, the future of The Originals is a bit uncertain. The show didn’t make it to the list of recently renewed shows by The CW on Sunday. Nevertheless, CW President Mark Pedowitz expressed his desire for the series to continue.

Speaking at the Television Critics Association’s press tour, Entertainment Weekly quotes him as saying, “The Originals has not yet premiered for the season. It’ll probably be a discussion in May. I’m a big Julie Plec fan. I’m hoping The Originals will continue. A lot of it will depend on performance.”

Questions about a potential The Originals season 5 will be answered when the series airs its fourth season.

The Originals season 4 premieres on March 17, at 8 p.m. on The CW.
