Lip Sync Battle Shorties is officially coming to Nickelodeon and the kiddie version promises to be just as fun and serious as the popular musical reality competition TV series.
One of Nickelodeon’s upcoming projects for 2017 is Lip Sync Battle Shorties and it will reportedly premiere in the fall. The spin-off series takes after Spike TV’s own Lip Sync Battle, which in turn was inspired by a segment on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.
Lip Sync Battle creators John Krasinski, Stephen Merchant, and Casey Patterson are also part of the Nickelodeon show as executive producers.
First Taste of Lip Sync Battle Shorties
Nickelodeon previously held a special Lip Sync Battle Shorties last December 2016. Sarah Hyland hosted the spin-off special then.
The venture proved to be quite special owing to the huge response it received. Lip Sync Battle Shorties drew in over 2 million viewers aside from its YouTube and social media mileage it brought in. Hence, it likely encouraged the network’s order for ten half-hour long episodes. Nickelodeon Group president Cyma Zarghami spoke highly of the upcoming series.
“Lip Sync Battle Shorties’ is so illustrative of how kids have changed. Our research tells us this generation believes they are all one step away from being famous. This show celebrates real kids with real talent, but more importantly a passion to perform and the confidence to do it.”
The upcoming kid-centric installment has yet to announce who will host the series. Yet, many are likely more curious to find out who will fill in for the part of Chrissy Teigen.
The Shorties Dance Crew are also on board to give contestants a hand in their performance. The format deviates slightly from the original, as Lip Sync Battle Shorties will have three contestants, according to Variety. Nonetheless, the battle promises to be just as competitive as the grown up version.
More Nickelodeon Projects to Come
In addition to Lip Sync Battle Shorties, viewers can also expect more projects and talents from Nickelodeon. According to Den of Geek, the network recently signed up Jojo Siwa as a talent.
Fans will know her from her stint on Abby’s Ultimate Dance Competition. Subsequently, Siwa also joined Lifetime’s Dance Moms. At thirteen years of age, Jojo Siwa is a singer, dancer, and performer. More than that, she has a major following on social media.
Nickelodeon’s latest project has the working title The Adventures of Kid Danger and Captain Man. It is based on the live-action kid show Henry Danger. The cast are also part of the animated series as its voice talents.
