Emma Stone will appear alongside Jonah Hill in the Netflix series Maniac. Production for the series begins on August 15. Filming will take off in New York City and is expected to wrap up before Thanksgiving.
Maniac will have ten episodes, all of which hails from director Cary Fukunaga. Despite being taken out last March, a lot has happened and the dark comedy series has been sold to Netflix. From there, the series progressed.
Since this upcoming show involves high profile stars, Paramount Chairman Brad Grey personally dealt with the project hands-on. He spoke to both actors and suggested that they must sync their schedules in order to smoothly carry on with the filming.
Emma Stone and Jonah Hill in the Fantasy World of Maniac
Maniac will be penned by Patrick Somerville. As the earlier mentioned source revealed, the plot will revolve around the fantasy world of Hill and Stone’s roles. That is because in reality, they are confined in a mental institute.
Their conditions are treated in a Psychiatric Ward due to being disconnected from reality, /Film reported. The source adds that this will be the very first live action TV role for both stars. Though they are not entirely new to small screen projects, Maniac is their first regular series.
As per the plot, the story is based on a 2014 Norwegian series of the same name. This project is a follow up to director Fukunaga’s breakout HBO series True Detective. Fukunaga’s success and experience during the said anthology series paved way for his career.
In addition, Stone and Hill also serve as executive producer for the series, alongside Fukunaga. Taking the same role with them are Ashley Zalta, Espen PA Lervaag, Kjetil Indegard, Kruke Kristiansen, Anne Kolbjornsen, Michael Sugar and Doug Wald of Anonymous Content.
Maniac serves as Stone and Hill’s second project together. The duo first met in the 2007 film Superbad.
