Neil Patrick Harris will star as Olaf in the new Netflix television show, A Series of Unfortunate Events. While he will be playing the villain protagonist, he explained that the new series will be dark and dedicated to the book.
Harris portrays the wicked character Count Olaf, whose role is to sabotage the Baudelaire orphans and steal their wealth. He must be ready to embrace his role as the despicable creature.

During a Netflix junket in 2016, Harris stated that A Series of Unfortunate Events might only cater to the young audience. But, he later added that “I think now that it’s done, they want to make sure that the kids still value it and that it’s not gone too Stranger Things,” quotes Mashable.
Furthermore, the actor said that he wants to give life to the character. However, he admitted that it was not easy to portray such a powerful role.
“The hard part is to try to add humanity to nastiness. Some people take that to an extreme and find people that they are similar to in their real lives that are these — that have some kind of humanity to them. And Olaf, by design, is just not that.”
Additionally, he said he did not want to be cheeky or to be charming. In order to do so, he reviewed and reread the book written originally by Lemony Snicket.
As for the story of A Series of Unfortunate Events, Harris said that he has never imagined that there is an existing story like it. He appears so totally impressed by the show’s set, and the production design as well.
“They did an entire beach, an entire train station, and an entire train track and an entire train trolley that drove up. It all happened on the same soundstage as all the other places I’ve mentioned.”
Totally amused, Harris said that he would like to have a Season 2 for A Series of Unfortunate events. The show premieres on Jan. 13 on Netflix.
