The cast of NCIS Los Angeles season 8 got teary-eyed when they talked about their late co-star Miguel Ferrer and what some of the characters have been through this season.
During the recent PaleyFest in Los Angeles, the cast and crew opened up about the passing of Ferrer (Owen Granger) and the struggle of Kensi (Daniela Ruah). The upcoming episode 19, title 767, is still a tribute to Ferrer.
LL Cool J (Sam) shared how hard working Ferrer was. TV Guide quoted the actor telling the crowd at the event:
“I called him the coolest guy of all the time. He was amazing. A lot of people don’t know he worked up until the millisecond [he died]. He came to work after chemo… he could hardly speak. He would fight through it. Until the day he died he would respond to group emails.”
NCIS LA executive producers R. Scott Gemmill and John P. Kousakis added CBS let Ferrer work until the end. The showrunners also commended the network for deciding not to kill off Granger. In the NCIS story, the assistant director left the team to attend to some old business after he recovered from a stab wound.
Ruah also got emotional when she talked about Kensi’s recovery this season. The actress revealed that she had to do some research for Kensi’s story arc including talking to someone who had been through the same experience as the character. Ruah admitted that she had learned in the process how important it is to ask for help.
Meanwhile, Gemmill teased that season 9 will be like a reset for the show. He said there will be a cliffhanger at the finale and some of the characters’ life will change in the upcoming season.
