Phil Dunphy will try to redeem himself in Modern Family season 8 episode 16.

The patriarch of the Dunphy family will join a charity basketball game once again to redeem himself after losing the game last year. Phil (Ty Burrell) has been practicing all year to perfect his basketball defense and offense.

However, things take an unexpected turn when former NBA players Charles Barkley and DeAndre Jordan show up in the event. The two begin to place some bets which put a lot of pressure on Phil.

Meanwhile, Phil’s wife Claire (Julie Bowen) is determined to keep a secret from her father, Jay (Ed O’Neill). Jay, on the other hand, is concerned that his youngest son Joe (Jeremy Maguire) doesn’t see him as an authoritative figure at home. It seems like Joe doesn’t fear his father all.

Elsewhere, Gloria (Sofia Vergara) visits Manny (Rico Rodriguez) at the school. However, her nemesis Donna Duncan (Jane Krakowski) tries to shame her for her lack of support at the school.

Castle alum Nathan Fillion will appear in Modern Family season 8 episode 16 as weatherman Rainer Shine.

Cast Members Fate After Modern Family Season 8

The cast and crew of the ABC hit comedy series have wrapped up production last week. However, the network has yet to confirm if the series will be coming back next season. No new deal is in place for the six adult cast members as well.

Burell, Bowen, Vergara, O’Neill, Eric Stonestreet (Cameron), and Jesse Tyler Ferguson are all asking for a bump on their current $350,000 per episode salary. ABC and 20th Century Fox TV are reportedly fighting over the series’ costs which causes the delay on the cast’s new contracts.

Bowen is still optimistic that the Emmy-winning show will be renewed for another season amidst the delay. The actress admitted that it was hard to finish season 8 not knowing if they would work together again.

Bowen said she wants to give everybody the opportunity to wrap up the series in a satisfying way. She told Entertainment Tonight:

“We have our fingers crossed. I feel confident. I’m optimistic about so few things, but I feel like Modern Family I should be optimistic about, because it’s given me so much joy, and I’m sure it’s gonna work out.”

Bowen promised fans that remaining episodes this season will not disappoint. She said viewers will see a homage to Bonnie and Clyde and a graduation before the season ends. Bowen added Dylan (Reid Ewing) will also return in the upcoming episodes.
