Miss Universe 2017 Pageant Security
The Philippine National Police (PNP) is all set for the security of the beauty queens as they arrive in Manila. Senior Supt. Emmanuel Licup, staff for operations of the Security Task Force for Miss Universe, said that since the pageant is an international event, it will be an opportunity for terrorists to attack.
However, he cleared that there is no threat relating to the upcoming pageant.
“As far as direct threat, as of now, we don’t have any direct threats concerning the staging of [the] Miss Universe pageant. The monitoring is continuous,” he said. Moreover, he added that no threats or attack will happen all throughout the competition. He noted that an intelligence center will also be put up for matters on Miss Universe 2017 pageant.
A GMA news report said that about 1,300 personnel in Metro Manila alone will be deployed for security. They will be assigned in four hotels where the contestants, board of judges, and organizers will be checked in. The aviation authority group of the country has also partnered with airport officials for the security.
Licup added that hosting the competition in the Philippines will not only highlight the country’s tourism destination but its peace and order as well. On the other hand, candidates must communicate with the police if they have their own trips like going to other provinces, shopping or going to the mall.
Licup said, “We have been briefed by the organizers that the Miss Universe organization will be strict in terms of the movement of these candidates.”
