When news of another How I Met Your Mother spin-off graced headlines back in December, many were skeptic. After all, an earlier attempt did not come through for the series.
Nevertheless, recent news suggest that this second pitch may have a better chance than the one that came before it. According to a report from Deadline, there’s consideration for the project from the part of CBS.
Speaking with the outlet, CBS entertainment president Glenn Geller stated the following: “We haven’t seen anything, we haven’t been pitched anything. I’m excited to read it when it’s finished, and it could potentially be a project for us.”
True enough, the network also considered the first attempt on a spin-off, How I Met Your Dad back in 2015. However, the side of creators Carter Bays and Craig Thomas didn’t agree on re-doing the pilot as per the conditions of CBS.
Now, How I Met Your Father hails from This Is Us co-executive producers Isaac Aptaker and Elizabeth Berger. Deadline reported in another article that the duo will serve as writers for this spin-off attempt.
The future of the How I Met Your Mother spin-off
It’s interesting to see what’s in store for the spin-off given new writers on board. Long-time fans of How I Met Your Mother were divided with the show’s series finale.
After spending the whole ninth season focusing on Barney and Robin’s wedding, fans later find out that the couple goes for a divorce. Meanwhile, the finale also proved a long-time theory right. Accordingly, when Ted is telling his story in 2030, Tracy is already dead and he’s pining for Robin yet again (big surprise!).
Due to majority of fans’ protests, people behind the show released an alternate ending. However, it didn’t seem to ease fans’ anger and feelings of betrayal.
How I Met Your Mother starred Josh Radnor as Ted Mosby, who tells the story of his adventures to his children. It also starred Cobie Smulders, Alyson Hannigan, Jason Segel, Cristin Milioti and Neil Patrick Harris. Stay tuned for more updates on How I Met Your Father.
