TV chef Aaron Sanchez will be joining MasterChef US season 8 along with regulars Gordon Ramsay and Christina Tosi.
Fox announced that Sanchez will be the reality cooking show’s third judge starting next season. The Taco Trip host first appeared in MasterChef US as a judge last season. Sanchez will also feature in upcoming episodes of MasterChef Junior season 5.
Sanchez is a James Beard Award-winning chef and co-starred on Chopped and Chopped Junior. He owns the Mexican restaurant Johnny Sanchez in New Orleans and Baltimore. He is also the author of two cookbooks, namely Simple Food, Big Flavor: Unforgettable Mexican-Inspired Recipes from My Kitchen to Yours and the La Comida del Barrio.
Sanchez has expressed his excitement of joining Ramsay and Tosi. Parade quoted him as saying:
“For me, it’s a dream come true. I haven’t wanted something professionally this bad in a long time.”
Meanwhile, both Ramsay and Tosi also believe that Sanchez will bring a lot of insight on the show. Gordon Ramsay said:
“Aaron Sanchez is a Mexican-American phenomenon. What does he bring to the Gordon-and-Christina mix? Huge insight into stuff that I didn’t know. And he’s got a lot of tattoos.”
Tosi has been a judge of MasterChef US and its Junior spin-off since season 6 after Joe Bastianich left the Fox show. In 2015, Bastianich’s departure led to the exit of fellow judge chef Graham Elliot.
In the previous season, the show had other guest judges apart from Sanchez. Wolfgang Puck, Edward Lee, Richard Blais, Kevin Sbraga, and Daniel Boulud also appeared in the show. Casting for MasterChef US season 8 already began in February 2016.
Michelle Obama in MasterChef Junior Season 5
The former First Lady will appear on MasterChef Junior season 5 later this month. BET noted that this is not the first time for Obama to appear on a cooking show. She previously joined celebrity chef Ina Garten on an episode of Barefoot Contessa last year. The episode was filmed at the White House.
The ex-FLOTUS is expected to teach the young contestants of the show about healthy food. Obama is known for her advocacies about health, fitness, and children. She encourages kids across the country to eat healthy meals and exercise as part of her Let’s Move! initiative.
MasterChef Junior consists of children between the ages of 8-13 who compete for a $100,000 prize. The show premiered earlier this month and currently airs every Thursday at 8 p.m. in Fox.
Meanwhile, the network has yet to release a debut date for MasterChef US season 8. However, it usually premieres in September.
