Marvel’s The Defenders Offers a Stan Lee Cameo and It Won’t Disappoint

Marvel’s The Defenders adds to the list of Marvel showcases where Stan Lee would make a cameo. What could his role be this time?

A report from Comic Book details that Lee is one of New York’s Finest in The Defenders world. The source relays the photo proving the cameo.

Reddit user gurman169 shared the photo of Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter). Behind her is a promotional poster for the New York Police Department. The face of NYPD is none other than a uniformed Stan Lee.

Some fans, however, may not consider this as an actual cameo. After all, Lee made physical appearances in most Marvel films. He even had a speaking role in his cameo for Agents of SHIELD‘s first season.

Nevertheless, the subtle nature of his appearance seems in line with The Defenders‘ detachment from the greater Marvel Cinematic Universe. Though the Netflix series are connected to the MCU, they strive hard to be their own thing. While SHIELD regards majority of what’s happening to the films, The Defenders care more about its personal problems.

Comic Book further explains that Marvel’s The Defenders is not the first Netflix show that features Lee’s cameo. The source details that Lee also appears in NYPD posters in Daredevil, Jessica Jones and Luke Cage. However, since they only appear at a split second, the posters are easy to miss.

Stan Lee’s Long List of Cameos

An article by /Film shares a video compilation of every Stan Lee cameo. Lee started the tradition in the first X-Men film. He appeared as a beach goer in red shorts.

His Spider-Man cameos were also notable since the two films that featured him placed Lee in dangerous situations. He appeared in the scenes where Spider-Man fought with the main villain. Meanwhile, he directly spoke with Peter Parker (Tobey Maguire) himself in Spider-Man 3.

He even introduced himself as Stan Lee in Reed Richards and Sue Storm’s wedding in Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer. However, the doorman did not believe him one bit and refused his entry to the occasion.

Marvel’s The Defenders Updates

As of writing, no release date for The Defenders exists yet. Nevertheless, since Iron Fist premieres in March, the superhero team up could come a few months after that.

Marvel’s The Defenders unites Jessica Jones, Daredevil (Charlie Cox), Luke Cage (Mike Colter), and Iron Fist (Finn Jones). Stay tuned for updates once a concrete release date drops.
