Law & Order: SVU Season 18 is finally back from a long midseason hiatus and will deal with the case of a missing child in its upcoming episode. The episode will also see Mariska Hargitay’s character, Benson, review her own responsibility as a mother while handling the case.
Fans are pleased that the show has returned. Meanwhile, spoilers tease that it has a number of interesting and dramatic episodes in store for its viewers.
Law & Order: SVU Season 18 to Handle a Case of a Missing Child
The upcoming episode titled Chasing Theo. The case will trigger self-analysis in Benson, as she evaluates her role as a mother.
According to the official synopsis, a 6-year-old boy goes missing from his bed amidst a drug-fuelled, wild party hosted by his mother. The promo shows the mother putting the child to sleep right before the party. She also has him wear earplugs so that he can sleep undisturbed despite the noise.
The mother said that there were about 50 to 60 guests at the party. However, she wasn’t too sure of the numbers since she was high on drugs and everything appeared hazy to her. She found her son missing when she checked on him at some point during the party.
Benson Evaluates Herself as a Mother
The clip also showed the mother pleading to the SVU team to find her child. Although Benson assures the mother that the team is on it, she herself is angry with her for being so irresponsible with the child.
Benson put herself in the mother’s position and imagines what she would do in a similar situation. Cartermatt reported that the case will cause some kind of emotional distress to her. She is a mother who spends a lot of her time worrying about her child.
In the last episode, Benson was actually considering a retirement so she can focus on Noah. Tucker thought it was the right decision, the TV Guide reported. But he was annoyed when she changed her mind.
