Fin’s backstory will be featured in the upcoming Law and Order SVU season 18 episode 12. Meanwhile, the team also deals with an assault victim.
The veteran SVU detective will revisit his time in the military when a fellow Army Ranger struggles to recover from a sexual assault. In a promo for the episode titled No Surrender, Lt. Olivia Benson (Mariska Hargitay) was seen trying to comfort the soldier (Sarah Booth) as she struggles to recover from the assault.
Detective Odafin “Fin” Tutuola (Ice T) then tells Benson that the victim is a hardcore soldier who spent years fighting insurgents in Iraq. At the end of the sneak peek, the victim was seen beating someone.
For years, Fin rarely spoke about his military background and only made a few indirect references to it. In a season 10 episode, he mentioned about serving on Operation Gothic Serpent in Somalia in order to connect with a military rape victim.
Other guest stars in this week’s Law and Order SVU season 18 episode 12 are Ryan Metcalf (Mickey Reid), Kris Eivers (Gary Cook), and Brian Charles Johnson (George “G-Man” Fortino). Joe Holt (Major Robert Dantley), Leslie Lyles (Sylvia Williams), Frankie G (Jose Marquez), and Perry Yung (Master Randy Lui) will also appear in the show.
Law and Order SVU 400th Episode
NBC’s longest-running procedural series celebrated its 400th episode recently. Hargitay directed the episode titled Motherly Love which focused on a teenager who killed a man that he believes raped her mother. The suspect turned out to be his best friend.
In the episode, Luke’s mother–Dr. Keller–first claimed that her son only defended her and sticks to the story that Trey raped her. However, Benson’s team found photos of Trey and Dr. Keller in compromising positions.
At trial, Luke testifies against her mother in exchange for immunity. Dr. Keller then claimed she never cried rape and Luke killed Trey because he was jealous. At the end, Benson had a heated exchange with the mother after the jury found Dr. Keller guilty of rape of a minor and 2nd-degree murder.
Hargitay said this episode is very special for her. She told E! News:
“When I shot the 400th episode, I didn’t download it. I was directing, so my hair was on fire, I had so much going on. I was so focused, I couldn’t really take it in. Last night when I thought about seeing Dick and seeing this night, it was like the floodgates opened. It’s 18 years. I’m just so overwhelmed and filled with gratitude and pride with what we’ve accomplished…”
The episode was produced and announced as the 400th episode of Law and Order SVU but it was actually aired as the 399th episode. The episode which was loosely inspired on President Donald Trump has yet to be aired.
Law and Order SVU season 18 episode 12 will air on Wednesday, February 22. Catch it at 9 p.m. in NBC.
