While fans continue to hold out for a possible Sex and the City 3 film, a lot is going on in the lives of its stars. One of the most recent is Kim Cattrall’s casting in a new series.
Cattrall, who played Samantha Jones in both the Sex and the City series and the movies, will star in a Swedish TV crime drama. Deadline first reported the casting. Titled Modus, the series will feature the actress as the president of the United States.
According to the source, Cattrall will appear in the second season of the series. In her arc, Cattrall’s POTUS goes to Stockholm for a presidential state visit. However, it appears trouble awaits the president when she gets there.
Deadline relays that the series takes inspiration from Anne Holt’s book, Frukta Inte. The source describes the series as follows:
“Modus‘ first season followed psychologist and profiler Inger Johanne Vik (Melinda Kinnaman) as she found herself, and her autistic daughter, drawn into an investigation surrounding a series of disturbing and brutal deaths. The case led her to team up with detective Ingvar Nymann (Henrik Norlen) in order to uncover the shocking crimes.”
Aside from Modus, Cattrall recently appeared in the small screens for The Witness for the Prosecution as Emily French. She also starred as Davina Jackson in the Canadian comedy series Sensitive Skin. There’s no news on whether the series will have a third season.
Potential for Sex and the City 3 and a Spin-Off
Sex and the City 2 premiered almost seven years ago. The HBO series ended longer than that. However, it appears the possibility for Sex and the City 3 as well as a spin-off series still exists.
A recent article from The Belfast Telegraph detailed the actress’ February 17 appearance in the morning show, Today. Cattrall did not outright confirm anything. However, in talking about the possibility, the actress said:
“There are many men in Samantha’s life so there’s lots of roles out there for a lot of young men… There’s been a lot of rumors, but there’s always rumors. I don’t wanna disappoint anybody. It’s been brewing and bubbling.”
Meanwhile, actress Sarah Jessica Parker recently hinted some details about the third film. Speaking to Marie Clare last February at the New York Fashion Week, Parker revealed:
“It’s in a warming drawer. It’s never been a ‘no’…it’s always been an ‘if’ and ‘when.’ And that remains the question being asked by two very thoughtful people who are taking into very serious consideration those people who devoted a lot of time.”
With that, it seems hope is not lost for Sex and the City 3. However, a release date may still be a very long way down the road.
