Jim Parsons already knows who will play the young Sheldon Cooper in The Big Bang Theory spinoff. However, he won’t reveal the identity of the actor.
During the 2017 Screen Actors Guild Awards, Parsons was asked on who will play the younger version of Sheldon in the TBBT spinoff. When pressed if they have already picked a lead for the show, the actor said they have but refused to give a name. For now, the Emmy-winning actor could only say that the little Sheldon is a wonderful kid.
He also revealed that Big Bang Theory showrunners Chuck Lorre and Steve Molaro led the audition but they also asked him for his opinion. “I kind of don’t want to get in the way too much because whoever the kid is has to do his own thing. You know what I mean? If it’s going to be special it has to be related to what’s going on but also it’s own creature, you know? I’m excited about it though,” he told Entertainment Tonight.
Parsons previously offered an advice on whoever will play the role of young Sheldon. The actor thinks it is best if the younger version of him watched the older Sheldon as little as possible.
What We Know About the Big Bang Theory Spinoff
The spinoff will have a different storyline than the current TBBT. It will focus on the life of young Sheldon Cooper in Texas. Throughout the years of TBBT‘s run, Sheldon’s childhood history has been mentioned from time to time.
Sheldon talked about how he grew up in Texas with an older brother, a fraternal twin sister, and a religious mother. In several episodes in the past, he also recalled how his classmates bullied him. The CalTech theoretical physicist also mentioned that their neighbors complained about his experiments as a kid.
In the spinoff, fans are expecting to have a glimpse of Sheldon’s father whom viewers have yet to meet. In The Big Bang Theory season 10 episode 5, Sheldon talked about his father. He revealed to Penny (Kaley Cuoco) that his father was the reason behind his three knocks on the door.
The Hollywood Reporter earlier reported that the spinoff would involve a single-cam setup as opposed to the multi-cam format of TBBT. In addition, it may have a Malcolm in the Middle-esque feel.
The current cast members of the hit comedy show will not be involved in the prequel except for Parsons. The actor will serve as executive producer of the show. CBS has yet to reveal a release date for the Big Bang Theory spinoff.
