House of Cards season 5 creator Beau Willimon slammed President Donald Trump once again and called Trump’s Twitter account a threat to national security.
Willimon targeted Trump, particularly his Twitter account. He said the social media network should delete Trump’s two accounts, @realDonaldTrump and @POTUS.
In a series of tweets, Willimon blasted the United States president. He claimed Trump has used the social media site to make “misleading claims” and threaten the sovereign states, the press, and the public. In one tweet, Willimon wrote:
“That makes @RealDonaldTrump’s tweets a national security threat. It emboldens our enemies to take advantage of his flagrant shortcomings.”
The House of Cards showrunner added deleting the social media accounts associated with the president wouldn’t be a violation of free speech. Willimon said Trump is free to say whatever he wants and has ways of doing so.
Willimon’s latest rant on Trump came in response to the president’s tweets over the weekend, Fox News noted. Trump claimed in a Twitter post that former President Barack Obama had him wiretapped at the Trump Tower before he won the election back in November 2016.
House of Cards Season 5 Details
The Netflix hit drama earlier announced the premiere date of its fifth season during Trump’s inauguration ceremony earlier this year. The show will debut on May 30 which is three months behind its usual premiere date.
The past seasons of HoC were released in February. Reports indicated that the delay was due to the changes in the show’s cast and producers.
Willimon will not be heading House of Cards season 5. Senior writers Melissa James Gibson and Frank Pugliese stepped up to be the showrunners this season. Willimon reportedly left the show to run the Action Group Network, a political action group.
As for the cast, Patricia Clarkson and Campbell Scott will be joining the show this season. Their respective roles remain under wraps.
Kevin Spacey will return to reprise his role as President Frank Underwood. Robin Wright will also return as First Lady Claire Underwood. Michael Kelly (Doug Stamper), Neve Campbell (LeAnn Harvey), Joel Kinnaman (Will Conway), and Paul Sparks (Thomas Yates) are all coming back too.
So far, the regular cast member from the previous seasons that will not be coming back for season 5 is Remy Danton (Mahershala Ali). In season 4, Remy and Jackie Sharp (Molly Parker) decided to go on the record against President Underwood. Remy also decided to quit politics entirely by end of season 4.
