One would never imagine that Hidden Figures can bring this much impact not only as a film but also as a story that changes lives. With a slight strike of tackling racism, it reminds more of what the nation has lost due to discrimination.

Hidden Figures: The Untold Story

According to Huffington Post, this biographical drama film tells the true untold story of three women working with NASA’s Langley Research Center. The setting was in 1960’s, featuring Katherine G. Johnson (Taraji P. Henson), Dorothy Vaughan (Octavia Spencer), and Mary Jackson (Janelle Monáe).

They were the brilliant minds joining the greatest project in history – Project Mercury. It was the launch of Astronaut John Glenn into orbit in 1961. Also, they participated in 1969’s Apollo 11, when Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin’s flight to the moon took place.

Meanwhile, Jim Crow laws were also powerfully portrayed with separate workplaces for Black and White. Bathrooms, lunch area, water station and even coffee pots were labeled for segregation purposes. Despite these struggles, the film showcases empowerment in unity, love, and family.

As per the earlier mentioned source, Eva Yaa Asantewaa urges even white people to watch as she states:

“Please, everyone see it. White people, in particular and I want you to meditate on this: How much you have lost due to racism. How you have been diminished due to racism. How you have been imperiled due to racism.”

It has been believed that black people were being pushed aside for many years. But the film proved that they are the race this nation desperately needs.

Hidden No More! Film Hits Box Office

The Hollywood Reporter revealed that Theodore Melfi’s film might compete with Patriot’s Day for the holiday crown. This prerelease track ranges $20 million within four-day tally. In the end, 20th Fox Century’s movie showed a notable success landing in the top spot, as per the latter source.

Furthermore, the film definitely showed an Oscar-worthy victory. But above all, it is worth mentioning that those women in the film whose stories are finally recognized are not Hidden Figures anymore.
