The Star Wars franchise has been successful in different mediums: films, television shows, comic books, video games, and even merchandises. However, a Star Wars TV show might not happen anytime soon, according to the ABC boss.
There have been negotiations as to whether there will be a live-action series available on small screens, according to reports. However, ABC Entertainment President Channing Dungey stated that it might not happen this time, at least on the network.
Will there be a Star Wars TV show soon?
Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, she said that the potential of a Star Wars TV Show is there. But, the idea is still not completely put into reality.
“That was sort of a conversation at TCA that got blown way out of proportion. We have had some conversations in general about wanting to find a way to bring something from the Lucas Star Wars Universe to ABC, but that’s far into the future,” she said.
“The focus at the moment for Lucas is on the current stuff that they’re doing on the film side and then, of course, they do have the stuff that they are doing on XD,” Dungey added. So far, the only available Star Wars TV show right now is Star Wars Rebels, which is currently on Disney XD.
The latter has some reference to the recent film Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. So far, the animated show is still on the air.
Supposedly, George Lucas had plans about a live-action adaptation called Star Wars: Underworld. Movie Web noted further that Lucas might reconsider the plan despite financial issues.
Should the Star Wars TV show happen in the future, there would be other options for Disney to choose from. Aside from ABC, the company has a partnership with Disney Channel and Netflix.
In other news, the upcoming Episode VIII of the movie franchise has becoming more and more hyped. Rumors including Rey’s origin and his training with Luke Skywalker.
While Rogue One and The Force Awakens both succeeded in the box office, fans are anticipating the victory of episode VIII as well.
