It appears there could be more crossovers for Hawaii Five-0 season 7 and MacGyver in the future. Both series’ first collaboration happens in MacGyver‘s upcoming episode.
News of this possibility comes straight from Peter Lenkov. Lenkov serves as executive producer for both Hawaii Five-0 and MacGyver. Speaking to ET Online, the EP shared his hopes that the upcoming crossover episode will push fans to want more team-ups from characters between the two shows.
The idea of bringing the series together stemmed when Lenkov wrote the MacGyver pilot. By then, he thought Hawaii Five-0 and MacGyver existed in the same universe. In terms of the potential for more crossovers, Lenkov told ET Online:
“The most important thing for me was to establish the fact that these two franchises co-exist in the same world tonally. I’m hoping that this introduction — the get to know you — will ultimately be the beginning of many more of these down the road.”
The initial understanding of reports made it seem like the crossover was happening on a Hawaii Five-0. However, it turns out the main crossover will happen in MacGyver. Nevertheless, it seems the Five-0 gang will mention Mac (Lucas Till) in their own new episode.
The MacGyver and Hawaii Five-0 crossover brings Mac, Jack (George Eads), Kono (Grace Park) and Chin (Daniel Dae Kim) working together.
Hawaii Five-0 Season 7 and Beyond
There’s no official renewal yet for Hawaii Five-0 season 8. However, the show has been a strong performer in its Friday timeslot that sources see it as a sure bet to come back next season.
Lenkov thinks the same. For the executive producer, as long as people want to watch the series, they will be continuing to tell stories. However, Alex O’Loughlin’s future plans may cause some problems.
O’Loughlin, who plays Steve McGarett on Hawaii Five-0, expressed back in November that he sees an end date for his run on the show. Consequently, Lenkov can’t imagine the series yet without O’Loughlin’s McGarett. Hence, he hopes the actor has it in him to do Five-0 for more years.
Despite the uncertain future, fans can look forward to what’s next for Hawaii Five-0 and MacGyver. TVLine describes the upcoming episode as follows:
“MacGyver and his team are on the way back from a mission, flying over the Pacific, when they get wind of and decide to help with an earthquake relief effort in Hawaii. There, they work with Five-0‘s Chin and Kono to rescue a group of trapped government scientists — all while some nefarious types plot to steal the top-secret weaponry from the compromised lab.”
Catch MacGyver and Hawaii Five-0 season 7 tonight at 8 p.m. and 9 p.m., respectively, in CBS.
