Grey’s Anatomy spoilers are claiming that season 13 will not be the last one. According to ABC Chief Channing Dungey, the show created by Shonda Rhimes is likely to be renewed for more seasons after the current one.
In an interview at the recently held Television Critics Association’s press tour, the ABC Chief told that their flagship medical series can even surpass NBC’s ER. ER lasted for 15 seasons before ending the series.
Grey’s Anatomy Spoilers Says Fans Can Expect More Seasons
“That’d be lovely,” Dungey told EW. “I’ll take even more! Honestly, I think that the show is going to continue as long as Shonda and the gang have a creative passion for telling those stories.”
He added that the team of Grey’s Anatomy is in “full steam ahead.”
Grey’s Anatomy has been one of ABC’s long running shows. It averages at about 11.6 million viewers and a 3.7 in the 18-49 demo. Notably, the numbers slightly decreased compared to the same time last year with 12 million and 3.9.
It is also the fourth biggest entertainment show. The top three are The Big Bang Theory, followed by Empire, and This Is Us.
Despite Patrick Dempsey’s character Derek’s demise in season 11, Grey’s Anatomy’s high rating has not changed dramatically. The show has also paved the way for lead actress’ Meredith Grey’s (Ellen Pompeo) story to seek for a new life after Derek’s death, Cosmopolitan said.
Grey’s Anatomy Stays One Of The Leading Entertainment Show
Dungey also noted that Shonda Rhimes has always been sticking to the core of its original characters despite including newer cast members in the show.
He said, “When I’ve been looking at the fan feedback and reaction from this season, people are more interested than ever in the relationship between Meredith and Alex [Justin Chambers].”
He added, “That’s just what the writers do so well; they continually peel back new layers of these characters that we get to expand and explore.”
Grey’s Anatomy will come back on ABC on January 26, Thursday at 8 p.m. Tune in here for more Grey’s Anatomy spoilers.
