Jackson and April will try to rekindle their romance in this week’s Grey’s Anatomy season 13 episode 16. However, they have to overcome an obstacle first.
The two will be sent to Montana to treat a young patient who needs a complicated throat transplant. As they work on the case, April (Sarah Drew) notices that Jackson (Jesse Williams) acts strange and can’t focus on their task at hand.
April later finds out that Jackson is distracted because he can’t stop thinking about his father, who happens to live in the area. April is upset and confronts Jackson.
In a sneak peek for episode Who Is He (And What Is He to You)?, April is seen yelling at Jackson about why he did not tell her that he already found his father. In response, Jackson tells April that his father doesn’t even know who he is.
In another promo teaser released by ABC, April forces Jackson to confront his father. She then encourages him to get whatever he needs off his chest so they can get back to work.
Sarah Drew said that April knew that Jackson needs to talk to his father to either end everything between them or not. Regardless, the actress said April knew that Jackson cares about his work and his patients. She uses those to persuade him to talk to his father.
Meanwhile, Jesse Williams refused to comment if Jackson and his father will patch things up in the end. The actor however teased that Jackson will be grateful to have April at his side during this time. ABC and the cast dubbed Grey’s Anatomy season 13 episode 16 as Japril the Sequel.
Is Japril Officially Back Together?
Drew did not confirm if Japril is together again. She, however, said the episode strengthens whatever relationship the two have and they continue to be there for each other. The actress told TV Guide:
“It really is more about Jackson than it is about Japril, but it is about April kind of showing up for Jackson in a way that she really never has so far in their relationship. That’s the part of ‘Japril the Sequel’ that I love the most. She really just shows up for him over and over and over again and doesn’t need him to show up for her in any way. And that is just a true mark of what love is supposed to look like.”
She further teased that episode 16 will be a real turning point for the co-parenting exes. She told Entertainment Weekly:
“I can tease that there’s a real turning point that happens for the two of them. They’re forced to be in the same space working together with no distraction outside of the norm … They’re going through something pretty big.”
Grey’s Anatomy season 13 episode 16 airs on Thursday at 8 p.m. in ABC. The episode was directed by Kevin McKidd (Dr. Owen Hunt).
