NBC officially confirmed The Good Place season 2. Ted Danson and Kristen Bell will get 13 more episodes in the sequel. Fans will see more of Eleanor Shellstrop and Michael.

According to reports, the show’s early renewal derives from season 1’s success. With positive reviews from viewers, fans and even TV experts, the show was able to pull off a successful first season. The renewal comes only days after the season 1 finale.

The Good Place Season 2 Renewal

Deadline reports that the renewal came after a meeting with the show’s executive producer and creator Michael Schur. He pitched the sequel “based on stories he had broken with a small writer’s room.”

On the other hand, NBC Entertainment President Jennifer Salke had her interview about the showrunner and the second season. She has only good things to say about Schur.

“Mike Schur has always had one of the most fertile and imaginative minds in comedy, but what he brought us with the first season of The Good Place was just extraordinary.

Salke further expressed her gratitude and excitement for the sequel. She recognized Schur and the show’s writers for creating a series from which the network “takes such enormous pride.”

The Good Place enjoyed massive support from audiences on its first run. Its rookie year reached average viewers of 18 to 49-year-old adults with a 1.9 rating. In addition, the show also earned 6.1 million viewers in Live+7.

However, the finale had a setback with its ratings. The show only gained 5.2 million viewers in the span of three days after its first airing, A.V. Club reports.

The Good Place revolves around Eleanor Shellstrop (Bell). She was mistakenly placed in “The Good Place” where “good” people in the afterlife are living. To prevent Michael (Danson) from finding out her fault and avoid the risk of being thrown to “The Bad Place” she asked the help of her soulmate named Chidi Anagonye (William Jackson Harper).

With his ethics in life serving as background, Eleanor is determined to change her imperfections to be able to stay in “The Good Place.”

There is no release date yet for the show’s next run. Stay tuned for The Good Place season 2 updates.
