Who could forget The Good Fight star Christine Baranski as Diane Lockhart? Probably no one. But it turns out that it is not Baranski’s most notable role ever.
The actress revealed that she is most recognizable as Leonard’s mother Dr. Beverly Hofstadter in The Big Bang Theory than her roles in both The Good Fight and its prequel, The Good Wife. In both CBS’s legal dramas, Baranski played the role of a strong and fashionable lawyer, Diane Lockhart.
Baranski confessed to People that most fans who approach her on the street recognize her as Leonard’s overly analytical psychiatrist mother in TBBT. The actress only appeared in 10 episodes of The Big Bang Theory.
In comparison, she appeared in almost all episodes of The Good Wife and now the lead star of the new CBS drama. The Good Fight star told the publication:
“More often than not, they point to me and say, ‘Leonard’s mother!’ even though I appear infrequently as her on The Big Bang Theory. The show is just such a megahit. There are worse things to be called, believe me.”
For her role as Beverly in TBBT, Baranski earned a nomination for an Emmy Award for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy Series in 2009. She gained the same nomination the following year.
The Good Fight Season 1 Episode 3 Recap
In the previous episode of The Good Fight, Diane and Lucca (Cush Jumbo) came to defend a client accused of aiding a terrorist.
Dr. Randolph Picot (Zachary Knighton) is a world-renowned heart surgeon and works with Doctors Without Borders. He gives professional assistance to medical personnel in Syria through Skype. He is helping a dentist carry out an operation for a man in Syria via Skype at the time of his arrest.
The discussion in court revealed that Dr. Picot’s patient–Tariq–only has only four hours left to live, Entertainment Weekly wrote. State Attorney lawyer Colin Morello (Justin Bartha) had no choice but to reveal that Tariq is actually an American citizen, not an ISIS fighter. His mother explains in court that her son only flew to Syria to bring home his brother Aimar, the one who actually joined ISIS.
Unfortunately, it damages Dr. Picot’s case since Tariq’s plan to give his brother a plane ticket violates the law. Judge Suzanne Morris ruled that Dr. Picot has to be detained until trial.
Diane’s secretary, Marissa (Sarah Steele) and Jay (Nyambi Nyambi) call Dr. Picot’s contact in Syria, Yusuf, via Skype to let him know of the court ruling. During the call, Aimar shows up and threatens to kill all of the medical staff unless they finish the surgery. Jay records the video chat and Diane and Lucca present it to Judge Morris.
The judge reverses her ruling since the risk of the entire medical staff dying outweighs the chance of one terrorist getting back to the US. Colin decides not to argue with the ruling.
Later on, a news report breaks out that an airstrike killed Aimar. It turns out the government only told Colin to pursue the case so they could draw out Aimar and kill him. Colin had no idea he was being used.
