The Good Wife spin-off will try to tackle another drama series’ shelved story in the upcoming The Good Fight season 1 episode 5.
Diane Lockhart (Christine Baranski) will handle a case of a TV writer who has been sued by his network. Apparently, the writer of a show in Chicago leaked an episode he wrote after his network refused to air it. The episode is about a presidential candidate caught up in an alleged sexual assault scandal.
According to Vanity Fair, the Stoppable: Requiem for an Airdate episode takes inspiration from a Law and Order SVU episode. The Law and Order episode initially eyed a release for October but instead faced delay multiple times. As of today, no word from NBC if it will ever air.
The episode is about a Trump–esque presidential candidate who finds himself in the middle of a sexual assault scandal. Gary Cole played the part, who also appeared in several episodes of The Good Wife.
Creator Robert King clarified that The Good Fight season 1 episode 5 is not inspired by the content of the controversial Law and Order SVU episode. He said it is based on the fact that it hasn’t been aired and has been delayed for several times.
Co-creator Michelle King added that the upcoming episode of The Good Fight shouldn’t be perceived as an attack on NBC. King told Vanity Fair:
“We didn’t really feel that we were taking shots at NBC. It was very much a generic network, and the fear was that any network or entertainment conglomerate could end up being frightened by this administration.”
More Trump-Inspired Stories in The Good Fight Season 1
Robert King confirmed that the new NBC courtroom drama will not do typical crime cases every week. King explained there will be changes since things are more political now.
As for Trump-esque stories, Delroy Lindo (Adrian Boseman) teased there are coming up. The actor told TV Guide:
“There is one specific plot twist that has to do with somebody at my firm who has voted for Donald Trump.”
Earlier reports detailed that The Good Fight made major changes after Trump won in November. The Kings admitted that they revised 75 percent of their original plans to align their stories with the current political climate.
Episode 1 should have shown Diane retiring from her law firm after Hillary Clinton won. But instead, they changed the scene and showed Diane’s stunned reaction to Trump’s inauguration.
