Shortly after the release of a new poster, a Game of Thrones teaser and the upcoming season’s premiere date finally emerged. Although the short teaser does not give away much the same as the poster, Jon Snow’s quote may have revealed some Game of Thrones season 7 spoilers.
The recent teaser offers eerie renders of the sigils that represent Westeros’ noble houses. Quotes from previous seasons accompany the video via voice overs. However, it is Jon Snow’s lines that seem to suggest the major events that will happen in season 7.
Jon Snow says, “The same thing is coming for all of us. There is only one war that matters–the great war. And it is here.” Following the quote, an image of an eye emerges. Given that the show has been building up to the threat of White Walkers, the symbolism most likely points to them.
Consequently, The Great War Jon Snow could be talking about may point to the rest of the world fighting the Night King’s army. Does the teaser suggest the war with the White Walkers finally happens next season?
Game of Thrones Season 7 Spoilers, If the Theories are Right
In terms of where the characters are currently standing, the war is a possibility. After all, season 6 left with Daenerys on her way to Westeros. Meanwhile, the Starks also reclaimed their hold in the North.
One theory according to Screen Rant suggests that the season will begin by pitting the noble houses against each other. However, when the victors emerge from the rubble, they will realize that there is a greater threat out there. Hence, they will form an alliance with their former enemies to fight The Great War.
Although logical, there is a slight hiccup to this theory. Other houses could easily work it out with each other. However, the odd man out in the group is Cersei.
The woman is no team player. Furthermore, now that she’s queen, she is less likely to bond with her enemies. Without any allies, will season 7 pave the way for her end?
Looking Ahead at Season 8
However, though the teaser hints at the impending threat of the undead, it is most likely that The Great War will be explored in season 8. When that day comes, it seems Jon Snow has the edge among the other houses. Polygon shares this insight:
“Snow is one of the only main characters to encounter the White Walkers and the Night King’s army. In terms of leaders, such as Daenerys and Cersei, he’s the only king who has fought the White Walkers and lived to tell the tale. He’s more aware of what’s out there and how dangerous it is than anyone else.”
