FX has finally revealed what fans have been waiting for – the Fargo season 3 premiere date. The series will return on April 19 for its third installment.
Season 3 will feature Ewan McGregor, Carrie Coon, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, and David Thewlis. Deadline cited FX’s statement saying McGregor will play dual roles in this season, which will be set in 2010. The actor plays the Stussy brothers – Emmit and Ray.
The Parking Lot King of Minnesota, Emmit, sees himself as an American success story. His younger brother Ray, on the other hand, is a pot-bellied parole officer who lives in his brother’s shadow.
Their sibling rivalry will turn into a twisted path that begins with petty theft. It soon leads to murder, mobsters, and a cutthroat competitive bridge.
Earlier this year, McGregor revealed that playing two characters is not the hardest challenge for him in the show. It is the accent. He said he doesn’t only have to flawlessly deliver the accent once, but he also needs to come up with two different ways of speaking it to give each of the Stussy brother their own identity.
“It’s the hardest accent I’ve ever done and I’ve done Dutch once. This is worse! … It’s a challenge and then within that accent to try to find Ray’s voice and Emmit’s voice?”
Meanwhile, Coon will play the role of Gloria Burgle, the chief of the local police department. The newly divorced mother tries to understand the new world of technology around her where people are more intimately connected with their phones than with the people around them.
Winstead, on the other hand, portrays Ray’s girlfriend Nikki Swango. She is a devious and attractive woman who recently got paroled and has a passion for competitive bridge.
Thewlis will play V.M. Vargas, a mysterious loner and a true capitalist. His bosses plan to partner with Emmit, whether McGregor’s character likes it or not.
Fargo Season 3 Connection to Season 2
Prior to the Fargo season 3 premiere date, executive producer Warren Littlefield already said that this season will have a little connection from the previous installment, IGN reported. The EP told the source:
“It’s a big region. I think the important thing about year three is there’s more intimacy. We’re a smaller cast in year three and so that allows us to go deeper with each and every one of these characters. [Creator] Noah [Hawley] is very focused on not repeating himself. Year two was a large war and so we are very focused on these characters … [but] there will be a kiss with the past.”
Production of the FX TV series is now underway in Calgary. The Fargo season 3 premiere date will be on April 19 at 10 p.m. in FX.
