American Crime Story could feature yet another book by author Jeffrey Toobin. This particular best-seller chronicles one of the biggest scandals to hit the US presidency.

Fans of American Crime Story could have more reason to anticipate future seasons of the FX anthology series. To date, many are already eager for its next two seasons both currently under development.

Season 2 focuses on Hurricane Katrina while season 3 looks at the 1997 assassination of Gianni Versace, the famous designer. Indeed, many expressed disappointment when Ryan Murphy announced Lady Gaga would not be part of ACS season 3. However, the latest news about American Crime Story could make up for it.

American Crime Story to Feature a Major Scandal

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Murphy and the producers have reportedly elected to feature another best-seller from Jeffrey Toobin. Apparently, A Vast Conspiracy: The Real Sex Scandal That Nearly Brought Down a President is likely the source material for one of its future seasons.

Interestingly, Toobin’s other book The Run of His Life: The People v. O.J. Simpson was the inspiration for the FX anthology’s first season. At the time, the author worked closely with the production and consulted with the writing staff.

It would also appear the groundwork for this future season is already in the works. Apparently, producers are meeting with the potential American Crime Story cast who would take on key roles in the story. In particular, the characters of Monica Lewinsky and Linda Tripp. The latter recorded conversations with the former about the affair.

Premise of Toobin’s 2012 Non-fiction Book

A Vast Conspiracy: The Real Sex Scandal That Nearly Brought Down a President by Jeffrey Toobin looks at one of the biggest scandals to hit the United States’ highest seat of office. Per TVLine, it examines the mid-1990s affair between White House intern Monica Lewinsky and then-President Bill Clinton.

The book delves further into the issue as it turned into a national incident. At the time, the scandal saw the possible impeachment of the then sitting president followed by his acquittal. So, could this story line match the success of American Crime Story OJ?
