Fresh Off The Boat author Eddie Huang blasted host and comedian Steve Harvey for making fun of Asian men.
It can be recalled that Steve Harvey made fun of dating Asian men when he brought up the self-help book entitled How to Date a White Woman: A Practical Guide for Asian Men.
He noted that it is comical when a white or black woman dates an Asian man. “Excuse me, do you like Asian men? No. Thank you,” he said, referring to his summary of the 2002 book.
Steve Harvey’s racist comments have drawn the ire of many, which includes the author. He described the Family Feud host’s statements as “hypocritical” as well as “upsetting,” Vulture said.
Fresh Off The Boat Author Eddie Huang Releases Statement
In response to his slur, Eddie Huang wrote a commentary about it in the New York Times. He said that stereotyping Asian men are part of a “self-fulfilling prophecy that produced an actual abhorrence to Asian men in the real world … That’s why this Steve Harvey episode is so upsetting.”
Eddie Huang added, “For his own personal profit, he’s willing to perpetuate the emasculation of Asian men regardless of how hypocritical it is.”
Steve Harvey Faces Racism Issue
This is not the first time Steve Harvey is faced with racism issue. In a recent report, the host is being slammed for alleged racist remarks he made on white people.
His former employee Joseph Cooper, a native of Dallas, reportedly said Steve Harvey encouraged his fans to “spit on white people.” He also allegedly told people to go and assault women.
On the other hand, Steve Harvey fights back by saying that Joseph Cooper is just threatening him of exposing videos and tapes since he started his career.
Eddie Huang is the author and lead star for Fresh Off The Boat, a family comedy which centers the life of an Asian-American family. It also stars Constance Wu, Randall Park, Hudson Yang, and Ian Cheng.
