Fox Chairman and CEO Gary Newman and entertainment president David Madden talked about Pitch, The X-Files and a lot more at the Television Critics Association winter press tour on Wednesday.
The duo discussed a number of key elements of their programming strategy, which included the prospects of Pitch and The X-Files.
Fox Bosses On Pitch, The X-Files and Their Next Live Musical
Gary Newman said that there are no plans for Pitch as of now. Pitch is a baseball drama from which the network had high hopes. However, the series failed to live up to the expectations.
“We were very proud of ‘Pitch’,” Newman said. “We would have loved to have a bigger audience.” He added, that any decision on the show won’t be coming before May. He said that the current picture is also true for The Exorcist.
Madden revealed during the TCA winter press tour that the network is exploring possibilities of another season of The X-Files. “A lot of conversations are going on,” he said. “As you can imagine, these conversations are complex. We hope to be able to announce something shortly.”
The popular science fiction drama was revived for a limited series run last season. The revival, reportedly, managed to score impressive ratings. Series creator Chris Carter returned with actors Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny for the miniseries, the Variety reported.
Grease Live was the network’s first live musical event, which amassed 12.2 million viewers. Madden, however, said that Fox is yet to come up with plans regarding the next live musical event.
Gary Newman Indicates Possibility of Scream Queens Season 3
Scream Queens concluded its season 2 with a very low rating. The second season of the series emerged to be the Big 4’s lowest rated drama. However, Newman did not rule out the possibility of a third season completely, TV Line reported. But, the decisions would only come later in the year.
“Obviously, we would have loved to have seen bigger numbers,” he said. Although, he noted that the show could reach out to the “hard-to-reach younger audience,” which they liked.
