A Final Destination actor will explore the world of the supernatural again in an upcoming ABC series. Interestingly, the premise of the new show is reminiscent of the famous horror franchise.
Devon Sawa who played Alex Browning in the first Final Destination film joins new series Somewhere Between. He will star alongside Paula Patton who first joined the project last year.
The appeal of the Final Destination films centered on the protagonist’s ability to take a glimpse of the future. In a vision, the lead sees the death of his/her companions which prompts some sort of commotion that prevents the scenario from happening. However, ‘death’ pursues the survivors later on and kills them one by one.
Interestingly, the premise of Somewhere Between also involves the protagonist knowing about things yet to happen.Deadline gave the following description for the series:
“Somewhere Between centers on superstar news producer and fiercely loving mom Laura Price (Patton). She isn’t crazy: She knows her daughter Serena is going to be murdered. She doesn’t know who the murderer is or why she’ll be killed, but she knows exactly when it will happen, where and how. Despite this, all of her attempts to keep her daughter safe fail, and Serena’s fixed, unmovable, terrifying fate keeps her directly in the path of her killer.”
Sawa, for his part, plays the role of Nico Jackson. The character is a private investigator.
Remembering the First Final Destination Film
Devon Sawa is not exactly new to projects with a supernatural element. An article from Bustle recalls the actor’s appearance in Casper as well as his part in the horror film Idle Hands.
However, one of his more notable roles is his stint in Final Destination. Aside from launching four sequels, his role as Alex Browning also paved the way for the film to become one of the scariest in the franchise.
In the film, Alex and his classmates heads for Paris when he has a premonition of the plane exploding in mid-air. After announcing what he saw, a fight breaks leading him and some others to disembark the aircraft. Weeks later, those who escaped the accident dies in the order that they died on Alex’s premonition.
It remains to be seen how Somewhere Between will portray the supernatural element of knowing what lies ahead in the future. One of the things the series could pursue is using a premonition similar to the one employed by Final Destination.
No release date exists yet for the upcoming series. Stay tuned for more news on Somewhere Between.
