Pawn Stars Chumlee is one of the most known personalities of the show. Hence, fans got worried when speculations about his death began circulating on the Internet recently.
One of the reasons fueling the rumors is that the TV personality has been inactive on social media recently and fans were not used to it. Before his inactivity, Chumlee just came back on Twitter. In fact, he shared a post several days ago.
Another reason could point to fans’ eagerness to know Chumlee’s plans for this year after an unfavorable 2016. In March 2016, Chumlee was arrested following a raid in his house over allegations of sexual assault. Multiple firearms and illegal drugs were also found in his property.
Chumlee was charged with 20 felony counts, including drug and weapons charges. The reality TV star pleaded guilty to a felony weapons charge, unlawful possession of a firearm, and to gross misdemeanor of attempted drug possession. He accepted a deal which calls for three years probation and counseling.
However, this is not the first time that Chumlee was rumored to be dead. In March 2014, he also fell victim to a death hoax.
The rumor started when one website claimed Chumlee died of a heart attack at the age of 31. The website later retracted the story.
Chumlee himself debunked the death hoax. Chumlee’s boss at Gold & Silver Pawn Shop, Rick Harrison, also assured fans that his Pawn Stars co-star was fine. He added that Chumlee even lost more than 100 pounds and in “the best health of his life” when the death hoax emerged.
Pawn Stars Chumlee Humble Beginnings
Chumlee, whose real name is Austin Russell, recently shared how he became part of Gold and Silver Pawnshop and later on in a TV show. He was already working with the Harrison business for five years before the show started.
Chumlee and Corey Harrison are childhood friends. He started working in the pawnshop when he was 21 years old. Chumlee admitted to Las Vegas Now that he was reluctant to appear dumb on television at first. However, people loved him for it and his role in Pawn Stars made him famous.
He became known to viewers as an expert when it comes to basketball shoes, particularly Air Jordan sneakers. He also showed his expertise in pinball machines and gas-powered toy cars.
Chumlee later formed his own company that sells novelty items such as t-shirts that he designed himself. In 2010, he sold half of the company to Rick Harrison for US$155,000.
