An Empire spinoff seems apparent as Lee Daniels reveals discussions are underway. Thus, could it possibly serve as a primer on Cookie?
It remains uncertain if the reported Empire spin-off would be about Cookie. Actress Taraji P. Henson plays the character in the Fox hip-hop drama.
This idea came about over a year ago, The Hollywood Reporter recalled. However, Lee Daniels did not confirm this particular detail. Nonetheless, he did officially confirm the spinoff.
“It could be. We really are in deep talks about it, and we’re having all these ideas thrown around to figure it out. But I can officially say that we will be having a spinoff,” Daniels said.
Is Star Another Empire Spinoff?
Prior to Daniels’ confirmation, many wondered if the latest Fox drama series Star was the rumored Empire spinoff. Last December 2016, Star premiered on the network after the mid-season finale of the Empire TV show.
Bustle noted the many similarities between the two. For instance, both are set in the music industry, each play host to famous guest stars.
Moreover, Lee Daniels is the co-creator behind both projects. However, the Empire spinoff Star are not related. Although Ilene Chaiken does welcome a crossover between the two.
Empire Renewal for Season 4
The Fox drama series returns for a fourth season. This is likely because of Empire’s consistent top ranking among drama series. Although it does face stiff competition with NBC’s This Is Us. Nonetheless, it was the perfect springboard for the premiere of Star.
Previous rumors teased season 3 might be the last for Lucious Lyon. Actor Terrence Howard plays this particular main character in the series. However, it would seem the greater concern among fans is the quality of the drama series.
Apparently, some fans feel it has simmered down compared to earlier seasons. However, the latest twists in the plot could possibly spice up the story once again. The musical drama series returns to Fox on Wednesday, March 27, 2017, with episode 10.
