With Grimm’s final season on the way, another fantasy drama is set to conquer NBC channel, Emerald City. The story is based on L. Frank Baum’s Land of Oz. However, the showrunners twisted the story in a very different way.

NBC is known for recreating an old children’s book and making them as a new story that could hook up their avid followers. Grimm series is one of their successful ventures, but now it is Emerald City’s turn to give the viewers another adventure in the world of fantasy and magic.

Emerald City: What We Know So Far

According to reports, though the series is based on Baum’s book, it does not mean it would totally adapt the book’s events. It is said that Dorothy Gale, played by Adria Arjona, is not the same Dorothy Gale we already know. She is far more different from the character in the book.

Moreover, one of the biggest changes they made in the story is the Scarecrow’s role, otherwise known as Lucas. He will be Dorothy’s love interest. And this “Scarecrow” is not the typical scarecrow seen in the farm. He will be portrayed by none other than Oliver Jackson-Cohen. How cool is that?

Adding on, Emerald City will not be “the” Emerald City we know if witches and wizards are not present. Actor Vincent O’nofrio will play the wizard, while Ana Ularu and Florence Kasumba will play the roles of the wicked witch of the West and East.

Other cast members include Gerran Howell as Jack, Joely Richardson as Glinda, Isabel Lucas as Anna, Mido Hamada Eamonn, Jordan Loughran as Tip and Roxy Sternberg as Elizabeth.

The series, based on International Business Times, will have a Game of Thrones vibe. With its costume, sets and graphics shown in the trailer, it is somewhat similar to HBO’s original series.

Emerald City is directed by Tarsem Singh and is set to have 10 episodes in the first run. The series is under Universal Television Production. It will premiere the same day that Grimm Season 6 will air, Jan. 6, Friday.
