It’s time for Ellen Pompeo to work behind the camera in the upcoming episode of Grey’s Anatomy Season 13.
Pompeo, who also plays lead role Meredith Grey, is set to debut her first directorial job in ABC medical drama. The actress teased that episode 18, titled Be Still, My Soul, will definitely make everybody cry.
The actress admitted she was not nervous about directing the scenes in her first ever directorial episode since she has the best cast to work with. Pompeo said she was more anxious about the technical aspects of the production than filming all the dramas.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Pompeo thanked her mentor and co-star Debbie Allen (Catherine Avery) for convincing her to take on the challenge of directing. Allen had helmed several episodes of Grey’s Anatomy. She also serves as executive producer of the show.
Pompeo’s other co-stars Kevin McKidd and Chandra Wilson are also regular directors of the show. When asked about how it feels directing herself, Entertainment Weekly quoted her saying:
“Not fun, but I was lucky to have Debbie Allen right with me every step of the way, so when I was tired or confused, she jumped in.”
The actress’directorial debut airs on March 30. The episode will feature Maggie’s (Kelly McCreary) mother (LaTonya Richardson Jackson) undergo treatment for breast cancer. McCreary said this event in Maggie’s life will greatly affect the character, who will start to reevaluate what is important in her life.
Coming Up on Grey’s Anatomy Season 13
Allen teased that season 13 finale will be really “hot”. She also hinted that Jackson’s (Jesse Williams) father (Eric Roberts) will be coming back this season. EW quoted her saying:
“We’ve planted a lot of seeds and that’s one of them that could resonate in a lot of ways — but there’s more coming.”
On whether Jackson and April (Sarah Drew) will finally rekindle romance, Drew said the co-parenting couple is going to be OK whether they decided to move forward romantically or stays platonic.
Justin Chambers (Alex Karev) was asked who he like Alex to end up with – Jo or Meredith? The actor said anything is possible in Grey’s Anatomy, but added that he would like to see how things go between Alex and Jo.
As for Owen-Amelia relationship, things are not doing fine at the moment. McKidd (Owen) said his character is struggling between loving Amelia (Caterina Scorsone) and his desire to have a baby. Amelia still doesn’t want to have kids.
